“Bruce Sterling asked me how we could get to the point where design fiction could become a commercial enterprise in its own right. Frankly, I’m not sure it can but it’s a very interesting question. And now that I’ve had some time to think about it, I can imagine design fiction consultancies that help (other) people do and make (other) things. In this scenario, design moves beyond modularity, adaptability or hackability – and beyond designerly ego – to explicitly become a cultural facilitator and mediator, a boundary object, if you like. That scenario impresses me and gets me excited about the future of design, as well as design fiction”
